East London

Maria's neighborhood, Whitechapel, is what they call "up-and-coming".
It is a bit grungy, but full of life--street markets, Bangladeshi
food, hipsters, loads of South Asian Muslim women cocooned in
abbayas. I am positive that it is exactly where I would live if I
lived in London. Property is already super expensive, and the hip
neighborhoods of Shoreditch and Hoxton (evidently already becoming a
bit passé since I travelled here in early 2000s) are a stones throw
away. I spent most of my time wandering in her 'hood, pretty content
to spend the day poking around. Good galleries, street art, markets,
Indian food. Why leave?
